4 lessons the pandemic taught us about work, life and balance

Patty McCord believes that now is the best time to change the way we work. She offers 4 key takeaways for business and learning leaders and reminds us to use this moment to change for the better, not return to “business as usual.” Here are some lessons learned from the pandemic -- would you add any?
- We work as teams, not families. Remote working has blurred the line between our family and work lives more than ever. We’re all adults, so we should act and treat each other that way at work.
- Stop comparing your org to others. Every company has unique processes and goals. Let go of “best practices” and determine what’s best for your teams and employees.
- Communication is everything. From vision to strategy, information no longer needs to trickle down from the C-Suite. Being clear and consistent at all levels allows employees to produce great results.
- Embrace trial and error. Be willing to try new systems and take note of what works -- and what doesn’t work -- after each week.
What we’re hearing
A lot of orgs are exploring what “hybrid work” might mean for advancing learning initiatives and building team culture. We’re thinking about how social and informal learning can play an important role. Studies show that there are more than 50 social, psychological and performance benefits from discussion-based, small-group learning.
